Richard Smith

Richard Henry Smith, age 76, of Ludington passed away Sunday, April 15, 2018. He was born August 8, 1941 in Kalamazoo to Henry and Dorothy (Boers) Smith. Dick graduated from Kalamazoo Christian High School in 1949. He went on to attend Western Michigan University and studied business. Dick enlisted in the US National Guard and served his country. After his honorable discharge, Dick returned home and continued his greenhouse business that he started at the age of twelve, with the assistance of his grandparents. Dick ran his business, Dick's Greenhouse, until he retired in 1997. It was then that he moved to the Ludington area. Dick was a member of the Kalamazoo Valley Plant Growers (KVPG) co-op. He was also a member of the Mason County Reformed Church and he was an avid fisherman. Dick is survived by his brother, James (Sherry) Smith of Kalamazoo and his nephews, Don, Dave, and Mark. He is also survived by several great nieces and nephews. Dick is preceded in death by his parents. A memorial service will be held Saturday, April 21, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. at the Mason County Reformed Church. Memorial contributions may be directed to the church. Arrangements have been entrusted to Oak Grove Funeral Home and Cremation Center of Ludington.
