Richard “Dick” Victor Cycenas, age 91, passed away Tuesday, March 21, 2017 at Ridgewood Care Center. He was born in Chicago, IL, April 3, 1925, son of the late Casimir and Anastasia (Nee: Konstantinovicius) Cycenas.

During World War II Dick proudly served with the U.S. Marine Corps as Sergeant in the South Pacific. On June 29, 1963 he was united in marriage to Natalie “Nat” A. Cherrier. He taught sixth grade with the Racine Unified School District for thirty years. Dick was a longtime member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. His hobbies included gardening and woodcarving.

He will be dearly missed by his loving wife of fifty-three years, Nat; his children, Elizabeth Preston of MInneapolis, MN, Anne (David) Trautner of Kewaskum, Ellen Hammond of Racine, Joseph Cycenas of Las Vegas, NV; his grandchildren, Robert and John Preston, Lauren, Edward, and Nicholas Trautner, Andrew, William, and Joseph Hammond; brother, John (Emily) Cycenas of CT; sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, Nancy Cycenas of Siren, Evelyn Nelson of Chetek, Yvonne (Bill) Lindsay of Woodbury, MN, Paul Cherrier of Eau Claire; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his daughters, Margaret Jo and Mary Victoria Cycenas; brothers, Edward Cycenas, Casimir (Helen) Cycenas, Raymond Cycenas, and Joseph Cycenas.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, March 25, 2017, 11:00 A.M. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 1533 Erie Street, with Rev. Steve Varghese officiating. Relatives and friends may meet with the family Friday at the funeral home from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. and Saturday at the church from 10:30 A.M. until time of Mass at 11:00 A.M. Memorials to St. Joseph Catholic Church or to the Racine Theater Guild have been suggested.

The family extends a special thank you to his caregivers on 2 East at Ridgewood Care Center for their loving and compassionate care.
