Rene L. Gagliano

Rene L. Gagliano, age 63, passed away Wednesday, January 18, 2017. Rene was born in Racine, July 21, 1953, daughter of George E. ‘Micky’ and Mildred (Nee: Georgieff) Johnson.

Rene was a graduate of UW- Madison and began teaching languages. While at St. Catherine’s High School she taught Russian, and at Armitage Academy she taught French. For the last twenty-six years she was a substitute teacher with Racine Unified School District. On November 7, 1981 at St. Rose Catholic Church she was united in marriage to Thomas Gagliano. An antique collector, Rene also enjoyed rummaging, had a great love for the north woods, and was an avid Packer, Brewer, and Badger fan. Rene always looked forward to spending time with her friends in the Substitute Teacher Club. Above all she cherished her family.

Survivors include her loving husband of thirty-five years, Thomas; her children, Victor Gagliano of Minneapolis, MN, Veronica (Jason) Averkamp of Caledonia; her baby grandson, Harrison Averkamp; her mother, Millie Johnson; sister, Sharon (Thomas) Mohrhauser; brothers-in-law; sister-in-law; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends. She was preceded in death by her father, George E. ‘Micky’ Johnson.

Private funeral services were held with private internment planned at Oak Grove Cemetery in Webster, WI. The Gagliano family wishes to thank everyone for the many thoughtful and kind gifts of encouragement. All of them were heartfelt. Memorials to St. Catherine’s High School have been suggested.
