Passed away October 27, 2018. Phylis was born in Lansing Michigan on June 9, 1946 the daughter of the late Henry and Agnes (Weitzel) Cooley. She was a cardiac Monitor Tech at Borgess Hospital where she retired after 40 years. Phylis was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church where she volunteered making food for shut-ins, was a member of their Arimatheans, Befrienders ministry, Home-bound Eucharistic Minister and the Sacristan. Phylis was a large supporter of KVCC Women's Basketball, Kalamazoo United Football, Hackett Baseball, and Hackett Girls Basketball. Phylis was preceded in death by two brothers: Ronald R. and Ronald J. Cooley. Surviving are: husband: Ronald, whom she married August 2, 1968, five children: Ronald (Susan Sherwood) Welch of Muskegon, Joseph (Amie) Welch of Kalamazoo , Patrick Welch of Kalamazoo, Jill (Michael) Barry of Kalamazoo and Maureen ( Jesse) Brown of Kalamazoo, eight grandchildren, one great grandson, three brothers: Calvin (Donna) Cooley of Lansing, Richard Cooley of Mason, Mi, Thomas (Billie) Cooley of Dimonddale, MI, two sisters: Carole Ann Haley of Lansing and Kathy (Steve) Lyell of Lincoln Park,MI. Rosary will take place at 10:30 a.m. prior to Memorial Mass celebrated October 31st at 11:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Msgr Michael Hazard as Celebrant. Memorials may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church or West Michigan Cancer Center.
