Paul Floyd Michael II, of Apple Valley, Minnesota passed away on February 7, 2018 at Fairview Southdale Hospital in Edina, Minnesota. Paul aka Klide Michael was the fourth child of seven children born on January 5, 1955 in Baumholder, Germany. His parents were Paul Floyd Michael and Marna Jane Michael (Sullivan). He married his spouse Lori Mae Michael (Chapin) 41 years ago on August 6, 1977. Paul graduated in 1973 from Gull Lake High School. He further graduated from Western Michigan University, with a BS in Earth Science and Environmental Studies, and later returned to Kalamazoo Valley Community College to obtain an Associate Degree in Law Enforcement.

Paul worked as a Registered Cardiac Ultra Sound Sonographer at Borgess Medical Center, for 16 years, prior to moving to Minnesota in 1990, where he was employed at St. Paul Heart Clinic, St Paul, Minnesota. He was a Supervisor at the clinic where he managed the ultrasound department, both on road accounts and those within the clinic and oversaw the clinic’s accreditation for Sonography. After the dissolution of St. Paul Heart Clinic, he continued working for Allina Medical Care System, United Hospital as a Supervisor until November of 2015. He was reunited with many of his St. Paul Heart Clinic co-workers in February of 2016 when he continued to work in Cardiac Ultra Sound/Sonography at Health East Care System until he retired in September 2017 due to his Multi-Symptom Atrophy. He was vastly respected, and loved due to his professionalism, care and empathy he showed throughout his professional career and is highly missed by doctors, technical staff and patients.

Paul loved riding his bike, and participated in many organized rides to Beaver Island, Arizona, Florida and a Cross-Country ride from Monterey California to Rehoboth Beach, Delaware with Kalamazoo Valley Community College for the 1976 bicentennial celebration. He enjoyed riding his bike most of his life and shared this activity with his wife, who also enjoyed the sport. He loved going to the cabin in McGregor, MN and shared his love of fishing with all his kids and his grandson Joshua. Many weekend trips entailed traveling to the cabin to “mow” and fish.

Paul loved Astronomy, reading and watching documentaries about recent scientific explorations of space, he loved history including World War II and Civil War documentaries. He loved flying, and recently took his first flight with his son Stephen on one of his training flights, where he was impressed by his son’s professionalism in the controls. He enjoyed going to airshows and taught all the kids how to recognize planes in the air as they flew overhead. He teased co-workers, his kids and grandkids, and was always coming up with a joke at the right moment. He loved holidays, cooking the holiday meals and getting together with his family and was always amazed at how large the family was growing. He was there at each birth and never turned down a moment to hold the new born, gently taking their small hands in his amazed that they were part of him.

A large part of Paul’s life was spent attending his kid’s activities, Hockey, Soccer, Baseball, Lacrosse and Football. He was a quiet participant, always present and interested in how they did, watching them develop in their sportsmanship and physical endurance. He taught them team spirit and the strength of positivity towards their team mates. He was the carpool master and the calendar book ran the day, busy for at least 25 years of his life. When it ended he wondered what he would find to do. He found woodwork refinishing and preserved many beautiful pieces of furniture for his family.

Paul was preceded in death by his father, Paul Floyd Michael, his mother, Marna Jane Michael, his brother Jeffrey Paul Michael, and his infant daughter, Allison Leigh Michael. His surviving family members are: Lori Michael, spouse. Sisters, Diana Johnson, Karen Michael, brothers, David Michael and Kenneth Michael. His sons, Stephen Paul Michael of New Hope, MN, Christopher Ryan Michael of Burnsville, MN, Jonathan Evan Michael of Lonsdale, MN, Tyler Jamison Michael of Apple Valley, MN and daughter, Lindsay Runke (Michael) of Hutchinson, MN. He was also survived by several grandchildren, Shaylee, Myla, Joshua, Charlie, Noah, Harper, Kaylee and Carter.
