Anthony , Patricia 9/11/1956 - 11/21/2020 Tucson, AZ Dr. Patricia Kay Anthony, 64, formally of Kalamazoo, recently passed away unexpectedly at her home in Tucson, AZ. Born on September 11, 1956, she was the daughter of the late William C. Anthony and Elizabeth Anthony Hughes, both formerly of Kalamazoo. Patricia attended Kalamazoo Public schools. A member of the First Presbyterian church of Kalamazoo, she sang in the choirs under Thomas Kasdorf until starting her university studies at Michigan State University. She went on to obtain multiple degrees in pharmacology, biology, finishing with a doctorate in pharmaceutical science from the University of Arizona in Tucson. As her studies took her to multiple campuses, her career path took her to multiple cities. She was employed at Kalsec In Kalamazoo, Searle pharmaceuticals in Chicago, and did research at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York before settling in Arizona to be closer to her parents. There she taught several classes in pharmacology at the University of Arizona, and also consulted on their pharmacology program. She even taught remedial pharmacology in the Caribbean islands. She authored and edited three reference books on pharmacology and pharmaceutical science. In her free time, Patricia enjoyed eating out, especially enjoying the spicy southwestern fare to be had in Tucson as well as the many sushi bars. Dressing up and decorating for the holidays was another activity that brought her much joy. An avid baker, she would provide the family various treats at every opportunity. An enthusiastic gardener, she was always planting something in her back yard and giving regular updates on the progress of her fruit trees. Ready with a witty remark or a remembered funny story, her sense of humor was ever present. She loved hugs and never missed an opportunity to give or receive one. She cared deeply about the welfare of the less fortunate and donated regularly to her favorite charities. Patricia lived life on her own terms, often with some bumps along the way but she always had an opinion or helpful advice. She was a cherished member of the family and will be so very much missed. Gone from us too soon. She is survived by her sister, Susan B. Anthony, her brother, William C. Anthony, sister in law , Kathleen, nephew, James, uncle, John Eshuis, and several cousins. Patricia will be laid to rest with a private family service at Mt Ever-Rest Memorial Park in Kalamazoo. In lieu of flowers , please consider donating to her favorite charity, Samaritan's Purse, your local SPCA, or a charity of your choice. Arrangements by the Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care, Richland Chapel. Personal messages for the family may be placed at www.farleyestesdowdle.com.
