Norma Jane Powell

POWELL, Norma Jane Mattawan, Michigan formerly of Galesburg, Michigan Norma Jane Powell, age 92 of Mattawan formerly of Galesburg, died March 13, 2019 at Brookdale Memory Care. She was born November 25, 1926, in Kalamazoo, the daughter of Ward and Beulah (VanHorn) Rice. Norma was a graduate of Galesburg High School. On April 7, 1945, Norma married Robert Powell. She was a devoted wife and mother who worked from home raising her family. She also worked part-time at Burgess Seed and Plant Company and the UpJohn Company. Robert and Norma have been longtime members of the Congregational Church of Galesburg. She enjoyed watching birds, growing flowers in her garden and baking. More than anything, Norma loved to cultivate her friendships and spend time with her family. She is survived by her husband Robert; her children: Stephen (Patti Wolff) Powell and Randy (Machelle) Powell; her 3 grandchildren: Ashley, Chelsey and Michael Powell; and several nieces and nephews. A memorial gathering will be held at the Lawton Community Center, 646 N. Nursery St., Lawton, MI 49065 from 12-3 PM on Tuesday, March 26, 2019. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial be directed to the American Macular Degeneration Foundation.
