Nancy Stone

Nancy Young Stone, 92, Venice, Fl died Wednesday Nov. 21, 2018 Nancy was born on December 15, 1925 in Crawfordsville, IN, the eldest child of William Foster Young and Mary Emma (Engle). She graduated from Antioch College, Yellow Springs, OH and Western Michigan University. She married William Royal Stone in 1946. Nancy moved to Venice, FL in 1988 after retiring as an associate professor Emeritus from the English Dept at Western Michigan. She was the author of three children's novels and several professional articles. Nancy was a founder of the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Venice. She did volunteer work at the Venice Public Library, at Garden Elementary School and at Village on the Isle where she was a resident since 2010. She had been a member of the board of the Triangle Inn Assoc, a member of the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators, the Historical Society of Venice and the Venice Area Democratic Party. Nancy is survived by a son, John C. Stone of Kalamazoo, a daughter, Emily Stone of Missoula, MT, four grandchildren, Erin, Billy, Jeremy and Christy, a sister, Eva Bendix of Venice, FL, a brother, Bennett Young of Orchard Park, NY and several nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her husband and her sister, Mary Richardson. A memorial service will be held January 5, 2019 at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation.
