Lacy, Nancy Bergman 6/16/1930 - 3/5/2018 Holland Nancy Bergman Lacy, age 87, of Holland, passed away Monday, March 5, 2018 at the Inn at Freedom Village in Holland. Nancy was born in Irvine, Kentucky (near Lexington) and graduated from Georgetown College and Southern Seminary in Kentucky. She became the assistant to the Chaplain of Baptist Hospital in Louisville, where she and Albert E. "AE", were married in 1955. She received a MSW Degree in Social Work from Carver Kent School of Social Work in Louisville. Nancy did further study Purdue University. Nancy was a school social worker in North Vernon, Indiana and an administrator of school social workers in Bloomington, Indiana, and a home support specialist in Kalamazoo Public Schools. She spent 30 years in various school systems. Nancy received the Medallion of Excellence Award and her picture hangs in the Hall of Excellence of King Westwood School in Kalamazoo. The Lacy's moved to Freedom Village Retirement Community in Holland, Michigan in 2009. After retirement, the Lacy's spent 6 months in Venice Florida where Nancy was the president of the Venice Symphony. Nancy was fascinated with people. She wanted to know them, laugh and sometimes cry with them. She often said that being a minister's wife, a mother, grandmother and a school social worker has been a fulfilling, interesting and wonderful life. Nancy was loved by her children and grandchildren and adored by her husband. As "AE" said, she was the "BEST of wives, BEST of mothers and my BEST friend." Nancy is survived by her husband of 62 years, Albert E. "AE" Lacy; daughter, Laura (Bill) Benson of Grand Rapids; son, Stephen (Virginia) Lacy of Evanston, IL; grandchildren, Daniel Vriesman of Holland, Ashley Vriesman formerly of Holland, Will Lacy and Sarah Lacy both of Evanston, IL; brother, Weston (Rose) Bergman of Vidalia, GA; and several other relatives in Tennessee, Kentucky and Georgia. Funeral services are planned for 11:00am Saturday, March 17 at Third Reformed Church, 111 W 13th St., Holland, with Rev. Kama Jongerius officiating. Burial will be in Frankfort Cemetery in Frankfort, KY. Memorial contributions may be made to the Southern Poverty Law Center.
