Myrtle V. Hipke

Myrtle V. Hipke, 95, Racine, died peacefully Saturday February 3, 2018 with her youngest daughter at her side.

Myrtle Virginia Hipke was born on May 5, 1922 in Newport City, Idaho to Harry and Signe Jensen (Nee: Gunderson), proud farmers. She was also raised by her loving stepfather, Lawrence Hagstrom.

Myrtle was a farm girl. She grew up milking cows and continued to enjoy working outdoors into old age. Whether pulling weeds or picking strawberries, she took deep satisfaction in hard work and a job well done. But Myrtle knew how to have fun, too. She never missed a chance to go fishing or play a good game of canasta! Myrtle had a rebellious side, and was known to sneak out to dance halls when she was a teen. She continued to dance well into her 80s.

Her unfailing love and devotion were felt by everyone around her. Every Sunday, her home filled with family for waffle breakfasts. She often baked homemade bread, cinnamon rolls, and chocolate chip cookies as well. Her youngest grandchildren affectionately called her "Nonnie." Her love extended to all animals, great and small. They gravitated towards her, sensing her innate kindness. Myrt's humor, strength, and endless love will be dearly missed by those who had the privilege of knowing her.

Myrtle's legacy is in the loved ones she leaves behind. She is survived by her children: Teri (Bruce) Gemmell, Dennis Hipke, Bonnie Hipke, Jeri (Robert) Fisher, Jodi Jensen, Trace (Mark) Stainbrook, and special niece Susan Gorsiski-Sohr (Harland), who she loved like her own. She is also survived by ten grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, older brother Clarence, grandson Brian Hipke, and son-in-law Bruce.

A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, February 17, 2018, 11:00 A.M. Relatives and friends may meet with the family at the funeral home on Saturday from 10:00 A.M. until time of service 11:00 A.M.
