Michael Robinson

Entered into God's care early Sunday morning, March 8, 2020 at his home. Michael was born May 10, 1958 in Maywood, IL to the late Ardelbert and Janet (Dove) Robinson. He was the middle child of three children, the only son and protector of his older sister Sandy (Sandra) and baby sister, Debbie (Debra). Baptized at an early age in Maywood, Illinois Michael would later move with his family to Three Rivers, Michigan for a short time before landing in Kalamazoo, MI where he would later graduate from Kalamazoo Central in 1977. Michael continued his education, receiving a diploma from the Denver Automotive and Diesel College, Inc. in Denver, CO on December 14, 1978. A lover of cars, Michael's training led to a successful career as an Automotive Technician and Machinist with Aero-Motive Company in Kalamazoo, MI for many years. Also an advocate for worker's rights, during his tenure with Aero-Motive, he served as a Union Steward, represented his colleagues as the chair of the bargaining team, and later retired at an early age due to a work-related injury. In 1981, Michael united with Sherry Robinson and from this union they had one daughter, Shila Marie and together raised a son, David Smith. Married for 30 years and although divorced, Sherry and Michael remained the best of friends until the day he passed. All who knew Michael, knew that he was a caretaker. He was always there to help anybody, no matter what you needed. He greeted all with open arms, kindness, strength and care. He enjoyed spending time with family, a great barbecue, and caring for his nieces as though they were his own. Michael is survived by his children, Shila Robinson and David Smith; a grandchild, Jalen Smith; sisters, Sandra White (Lindsay), Debra Robinson, Michelle Robinson; three special nieces, Kimberly Carter (Jathan), Lynneise Gaddie (Tyron), Nicole Cook; one special nephew Michael Lane (aka Little Mike); great-nieces and nephews Tony (Joshua), Aaron, Kierra, Brianne, Tyron Jr., Jaden, Jordan and a host of other cousins, relatives and friends. Services will be held at 12:00pm Monday, March 16 at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes Burial and Cremation Services, 622 South Burdick St, Kalamazoo, MI 49007. A family hour will be held from 11:00am-12:00pm Monday at the funeral home prior to the service.
