Maxine Lillian Templeton Gill, 96, died after a brief illness on April 22, 2017, surrounded by her loved ones. Maxine was born March 20, 1921, in New Castle, Pennsylvania, the daughter of the late John Herold Templeton and Lillian delPierre Templeton. She graduated from New Castle High School and Grove City College, after which she taught business education in Oil City, PA. Maxine relocated with her husband to South Bend, Indiana where she taught for more than 20 years. In 1972, she moved to Kalamazoo where she ended her teaching career at Kalamazoo Christian. Maxine and husband, Joseph Harold Gill, married on June 21, 1947. The couple enjoyed 57 years of adventures, traveling to every continent but Africa, taking cruises, attending the Indy 500, and being active in their church and community. Proud to have been a world traveler, she and Joe would share slide shows, stories, and artifacts from their journeys with others. Faith being central to her, she also volunteered in a variety of capacities for 30 years at the First United Methodist Church in Kalamazoo. Maxine was preceded in death by her husband in 2004, and siblings, Marilyn, Virginia, and John. She is survived by her son, Gregory (Beverly) Gill and grandson Andrew, daughter, Wendy Livingston and grandson Daniel (Rebecca) Livingston and great-grandsons Robert and Michael, and granddaughter Stephanie (Andrew Elms) Livingston and great-grandson Thomas. A memorial service will be held Friday, May 19th, 11:00am at First United Methodist Church of Kalamazoo, 212 S. Park St., Kalamazoo, 49007. Arrangements by Langeland Family Funeral homes, Memorial Chapel, 622 S.
