Mavis Dustir Tomek

Mavis found peace with dignity on July 17, 2017 at the age of 92. She was born in Witten, South Dakota, the sixth of seven children. Her adventuresome parents left family farms in the Midwest to homestead in the early 1900’s. The family relocated to Racine County in 1938. Mavis was loyal to her family, proud of her brothers and competitive with her loving sisters. A successful businesswoman, Mavis will best be remembered for the qualities of so many who grew up during the Great Depression, World War II and the Korean conflict. She had a strong work ethic, was always positive and was generous with what she had. For those who knew her well, she was their kind and caring angel. Mavis was also very proud of her Irish heritage. She maintained her generosity and encouraged others in pursuit of academic and career goals throughout her life.

Mavis was preceded in death by her husband Richard Tomek, parents Thomas and Mabelle Worsley, brothers Wayne and Wion Worsley, sisters Maryon Abbey, Monica Bayley and Ann Driver. She is survived by her dear brother Gail Worsley, loving daughter Jeri Dustir, beloved “adopted daughter” Rose Sadlon and other family members including nieces, nephews, great nieces, a great nephew as well as many friends. We will miss you Sister, Mother, Aunt, Great Aunt and Dear Friend.

Burial will be private. Please join in a Celebration of Life at 1:00 PM, Tuesday, July 25, 2017 at the Summit Restaurant on Washington Avenue in Racine. Please bring your favorite memory of Mavis to share. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Mavis may be made to the St. Joseph Indian School (1301 North Main Street, Chamberlain, SD 57325) or the charity of your choice.

A sincere thank you to the staff of St. Luke’s Select Specialty Hospital and Zilber Family Hospice in Wauwatosa for their genuine care and compassion.
