Maureen M. McAtee

Maureen Mary "Mo" McAtee, 39, of Portage, left this world on Sept. 17, 2007 at Bronson Methodist Hospital in Kalamazoo. Mo, as family and friends called her, was a radiant charmer, a beloved wife, mother, daughter and friend who loved and was loved by everyone she touched. She was giving and caring. Mo helped everyone as much as she could, despite battling various physical ailments throughout her young life. Maureen was born June 19, 1968 in Kalamazoo. She attended elementary and high school in Kalamazoo, Ann Arbor and Columbia, MO. She was enrolled at Western Michigan University when she met Jerry McAtee, whom she married on Sept. 24, 1994. Mo worked a variety of secretarial jobs in Kalamazoo, Tekonsha and Raleigh, NC, before devoting herself to being a full-time mom after the birth of daughter, Emily on May 6, 1999. Mo is survived by husband, Jerry McAtee and daughter, Emily McAtee of Portage; twin sister, Shannon and husband, Ron Schmidt of (Wisconsin); parents, Dr. James and Chris Carow of Kalamazoo and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. The family would like to acknowledge the invaluable support of Bill W. and friends. Funeral services will be at 1 PM Friday, Sept. 21st with cremation to follow. Viewing and visitation are from 2-4 and 6-8 PM Thursday, Sept. 20th at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Memorial Chapel, 622 S. Burdick St . Private inurnment will take place at a later date.
