Mary Skartsiaris

Mary Helen Skartsiaris, age 90, passed away in Kalamazoo, MI. Mary was born August 10, 1926 in Detroit, MI the daughter of Leo and Helen (Cassidy) LaForge. On January 10, 1946, she was united in marriage to C. Gus Skartsiaris. Throughout the years they were well know restaurateurs, operating the Canary Restaurant in Kalamazoo, the Parkview Inn in Richland and The Seasons in Three Rivers. Mary and Gus were instrumental in assisting in the establishment of the Domestic Assault Shelter in Three Rivers. They enjoyed traveling to Greece, Japan, Mexico, Aruba, Italy. Mary enjoyed watching the successful endeavors of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Surviving a daughter, Joanne (James) Willson; two sons, Ted (Pat) Skartsiaris and Michael (Sandy) Skartsiaris; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; a brother Edward (Anne) LaForge. Mary was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Maria Willson; by her parents and six brothers. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11:30AM Thursday, June 22nd at St. Joseph Catholic Church (936 Lake St). Interment will follow in Ft. Custer National Cemetery. Friends may meet the family one-hour prior to service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Mary's memory may be directed to St. Joseph Catholic Church.
