Mary Maxam

Passed away Tuesday morning, November 17, 2017. Mary was born March 25, 1931 at her family's farm near Prestonsburg, Kentucky, to Byrd and Pearl Johnson. She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald L. Rice, and by 13 of her brothers and sisters. She is survived by her daughter, Teresa (Rice) Stannard, her sister Rebecca Skeans, and her grandchildren Patrick Stannard and Kaitlin (Stannard) Peterson. There will be no visitation or services. She is remembered by her family and many friends for her laughter, her superb cooking, her calm wisdom, but most of all for her kindness. "Aunt Mag" made her home a warm refuge filled with comfort and love. Everyone was welcome at her table and no one left hungry. We can best honor her memory by helping those around us as she did; nurture the young, visit the sick, hug the lonely, feed the hungry, be a friend to the outcast, and bring a plate of cookies to everyone else.
