Mary Ann Wood

Mary Ann Wood, age 82, of Otsego, MI passed away Monday, May 22, 2017 in Kalamazoo. She was born January 18, 1935 in Owensboro, Kentucky the daughter of Anson and Velma (Gossmer) Reed. She enjoyed spending time in her yard and decorating her home, loved to travel, shop and enjoyed spending time on the water. She was a strong woman who raised four children on her own. She loved to dance and enjoyed listening to bands at the bowling alley in the 60's. She also enjoyed playing the piano. Mary Ann always made time for her family; she was ready to load up a car full of kids for a trip to the lake at a moment's notice. Her kids are sure they have visited every stretch of beach along Lake Michigan's shoreline. They also remember her reluctance to wear a suit because of what she called her "chicken legs". On February 6, 1988 in Plainwell she married Robert Wood who preceded her in death in 2015. Surviving are her children, Deborah Hodgemire of Plainwell, James (Donna Hunter) Peck of Lawton, Douglas (Sandy Hall) Peck of Shelbyville and Gary (Sue) Peck of Otsego; step children, Lynne (Joel) Cook and Jeffrey Wood of Gobles; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, her son-in-law, Keith and her sister, Ellyn Wood. Friends may meet with Mary Ann's family Friday, May 26, 2017 from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. at the Winkel Funeral Home, Otsego. Cremation will follow. A gathering for family and friends will be held Sunday, May 28, 2017 beginning at 4:00 P.M. at the home of Deborah Hodgemire, 11045 Gilkey Rd, Plainwell. Burial of ashes will take place at Hillside Cemetery, Plainwell at a later time. Contributions in memory of Mary Ann may be made to the American Heart Association or to St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital.
