Martha R. Derhammer, of Vicksburg passed away on Wednesday, March 8, 2017 at the age of 97. Martha was born on March 29, 1919 in Huntington County, Indiana. She was the daughter of Roy and Mertie E. (Sprong) Pinkerton. Her family moved to Vicksburg for work. While in Vicksburg schools Martha played the clarinet in the band and enjoyed the Glee Club. She graduated from Vicksburg High School in 1937. On September 20, 1939, Martha married John “Jack” H. Derhammer.
Martha is survived by her children: Judy Imanse, of Vicksburg; Kathleen (Daniel) Bonnema, of Kalamazoo; five grandchildren: Craig (Susan) Imanse, Curt (Cristy) Imanse, Todd Newell, Amy (Greg) Pierce, and Rachel (Tyson) Dubnicka; nine great grandchildren; son-in-law, Delbert Newell; and numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband, Jack Derhammer; daughter, Mary Jane Newell and her parents.
The family is very appreciative for the exemplary care given to Martha by her caregivers: Matt Gross, of Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan and the staff at Brookdale Senior Living Solutions, Portage, Michigan. We were also touched by the kindness shown to us by the staff, and Martha’s Friends at Hope Woods, where she resided for thirteen years.
