Mark Baliff Sawyer, age 11, of Galesburg, MI died Friday afternoon, June 9, 2017 from injuries sustained in an accident at home. Otherwise strong and healthy, he was able to donate five organs so that others may live. His parents chose the Gift of Life in order to help prevent others and their families from experiencing the anguish his family is feeling. Sawyer, the son of Mark R. and Stephany L. (Goldner) Baliff, was born in Kalamazoo, MI on May 9, 2006. He was currently in the Fifth Grade at Ryan Intermediate School of the Gull Lake School District. Sawyer was an active KOHA hockey player and previously enjoyed three years of flag football. He was an active and competitive boy and was passionate about most sports. He had a nurturing heart and loved spending time with little ones, whether they be family, friends, or at his mother's work. His friends were a very important part of his life, as was his family. He strived to be a good role-model and leader in all aspects of life. Sawyer is survived by his Mother and Father, Stephany and Mark; three sisters, Josie, Avery, and his twin, Elena, all at home; his maternal grandmother and special friend, Linda Hass Goldner and Dave Bryan of Kalamazoo, MI; maternal step-grandmother, Faye Goldner of Schoolcraft, MI; paternal grandfather and step-grandmother, Jerry and Marsha Baliff of Battle Creek, MI; paternal grandmother and step-grandfather, Susan and Joel Barness of Lake City, SC and several aunts, uncles and cousins. Sawyer was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Edwin Goldner. The Memorial Service to celebrate Sawyer's life will be held on Friday, June 16th at 6:00 p.m. at Gracespring Bible Church, 8643 Gull Road, Richland, MI 49083, with Pastor Rob Cook, officiating. Sawyer's family will greet friends from 3:00 p.m. until service time at the church on Friday. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Sawyer's honor may be directed to the Kalamazoo Optimist Hockey Association (KOHA) Sportship Fund: 5076 Sports Drive, Kalamazoo, MI 49009. The Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care, Richland Chapel (269-629-6022) is assisting Sawyer's family with his arrangements.
