Marie Allman

Age 93, died December 22, 2016 at Rose Arbor Hospice surrounded by her family. She was born January 5, 1923 in Buffalo, NY, the daughter of Porter and Martha (Summerfield) Thomas. Marie worked for Kalamazoo County for 16 years and was an active member and volunteer at St. Augustine Cathedral. Marie’s strong work ethic in the home, workplace and church inspired her friends and children to work hard alongside her. She also loved to vacation; in the early years camping with her young family, one most memorable trip to Alaska with her husband, several pilgrimages to holy sites, and until very recently, annual trips to the lake with her adult children and their families. She was preceded in death by her husband, Hugh Allman in 1986; siblings: Margaret Mishall, Dorothy Mackey, Theodore “Ted” Thomas, James Thomas, Mildred Richardson and Ellen Otte; and by a daughter, Joan Rentschler. Surviving are 6 children: David Allman, Mary (Mark) Kovach, Marilyn (David) Goldberg, Michael (Sally) Allman, Thomas (Jan) Allman and Julia (Raymond) Buck; 17 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; son-in-law, David Rentschler; and many nieces and nephews. Visit with family and friends on Monday from 5-8pm at Betzler Life Story Funeral Home, 6080 Stadium Drive, Kalamazoo (269) 375-2900 where a Rosary and Divine Mercy Chaplet will be recited at 7:30pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday 10am St. Augustine Cathedral. Burial at Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
