Margaret Catherine “Peggy” Mieras was thoughtful, kind, and loving. She will always be remembered as a faith-filled person who cared deeply for her family.

Peggy’s life began on the 3rd day of January 1949 in Grand Rapids, MI. On that day, the home of Joseph B. Lewis and Margaret Tracy was filled with great anticipation as their precious little “Peggy” came into the world. Peggy, along with her brother, John, filled the household with fun, laughter, and joy as she made her way through elementary school and high school. She attended South High School, graduating in 1967.

Peggy married at a young age and had a daughter, Sherri. A few years later the marriage ended in divorce. Peggy worked for many years at General Motor’s old Diesel plant where she knew a fellow by the name of Michael Mieras. Eventually, Michael and Peggy began dating and discovered they truly enjoyed being together and wanted to share their love for each other through marriage. On May 6, 1985, the happy couple shared their vows with each other and became husband and wife.

Peggy’s family grew quickly as Michael had three children, Kevin, Lisa, and Mary. As time went on Peggy welcomed many beautiful grandchildren into her life. She loved them dearly and cherished every moment she spent with them. Michael and Peggy enjoyed traveling and visited many great places in Michigan. They went on trips to California and to Las Vegas.

Peggy was an avid reader, the type who read the newspaper from cover to cover. She also was a wonderful cook. Her lasagna, meatloaf, tamales, and chicken and dumplings were family favorites. In addition to reading and cooking, Peggy was a fan of country music and liked watching her soap operas on television. She also did lots of mending and alterations on her sewing machine.

Unfortunately, last April Peggy was diagnosed with bone cancer and had to undergo months of chemo and radiation. Last week her health began to fail and nothing more could be done. Peggy passed away on Wednesday morning, November 16, 2016, at 7:28am with her husband, Michael, at her side. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew her.

Margaret C. “Peggy” Mieras, aged 67 , of Grand Rapids, passed away on Wednesday morning, November 16, 2016 with her family at her side. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Sherrie Cardosa and her brother, John Lewis and sister-in-law, Yolanda Lorenz. She is survived by her husband of 33 years, Michael P. Mieras; her step children, Kevin Mieras, Lisa Mieras, Mary Kirkpatrick; her grandson, Dustin Mieras and great grandchildren, Malia, Joseph, Noah and Evan Kirkpatrick, Domonic, Ashton and Alania Mieras; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Gerald Lorenz, Jerry Mieras (Carol White), Stanley (Carol) Mieras, Joan (Lee) Reynders; many nieces, nephews and friends. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, November 21, at 11:00 am at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 2230 Lake Michigan Dr. NW. Burial in Woodlawn Cemetery.
