Margaret Ann Brown

Died peacefully April 9, 2006, at The Springs at Bronson Place. Margaret Ann was born July 3, 1913, in Plainwell, MI, the daughter of Vera (Hayden) and Frank Davis. She attended Michigan State University and was graduated from Carleton College in 1935. She married Eric V. Brown on May 31, 1939. They moved to Kalamazoo in 1940, where she has resided ever since. Mrs. Brown was a member of several music clubs, the Kalamazoo Institute of Arts, the Art League, Friday Club, Service Club of Kalamazoo, the Park Club and the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation. She served on the boards of directors of Planned Parenthood and the Bach Festival. She taught piano for many years, performed and accompanied various soloists. Ann Brown enjoyed classical music, the symphony, art, painting, tennis, traveling, her family and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Eric V. Brown; and her brother, Robert Davis. She is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Eric V. Brown Jr. and Linda of Kalamazoo, Hayden D. Brown and Elizabeth of Marblehead, MA, and James K. Brown and Letitia of San Francisco; 7 grandchildren, Scott Eric Brown of Chicago, Julie (Jay) Garside of Kalamazoo, Matthew C. Brown of Jersey City, NJ, Letitia, Hayden and Clementine Brown of San Francisco, and Amelia Brown of Marblehead; a sister, Ruth Davis Brown of Seattle; a brother-in-law, Charles Betzner; and several cousins, nieces and nephews. She had the joy of knowing one great-grandchild, Hayden Grace Garside. Private inurnment has taken place in Genesee Prairie Cemetery. A Memorial Service will be held 1:00 Saturday afternoon, April 15, 2006, at Stetson Chapel, Kalamazoo College, with the Rev. Dr. Douglas Vernon, of First United Methodist Church, officiating. The family will greet friends immediately following the service in the Dalton Lobby, Light Fine Arts Building.
