Marcia Verdries

Age 89 of Kalamazoo, died October 23, 2018. Marcia was born April 20, 1929 in Kalamazoo to the late Carl and Ruby (Short) Dunklee. She was united in marriage to Robert "Bob" W. Verdries in November of 1947, who passed away in November of 1990. Marcia retired from the Kalamazoo Gazette in 1989 where she served for 23 years. In retirement, she and Bob enjoyed trips out West for horseback riding. They also enjoyed square dancing and boating excursions around Michigan, with their children and grandchildren. Marcia also volunteered her time with the American Red Cross and the Cancer Society Discovery Shop. She is survived by her children, Gary (Cynthia) Verdries, Gail Baumgartner and Glyn Verdries; grandchildren, Valerie (Heath) McLeod, Amy Verdries, Michael Baumgartner and Jerry (Jamie) Baumgartner; great-grandchildren, Sydnee, Arlyssa, Breckin and Christina Baumgartner and Liam and Geneva McLeod. She was preceded in death by a great-grandson, Elias McLeod. The family will greet friends on Saturday, November 3rd from 1-3:00 pm at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 S. 9th St. Memorial donations in Marcia's name may be directed to Rose Arbor Hospice Care or to Park Village Pines Assisted Living. www.langelands.com
