Lyle Smalley

Lyle George "Phil" Smalley of Kalamazoo, MI, age 82, passed away on Wednesday, June 21, 2017. Lyle was born in Vicksburg, Michigan on January 10, 1935; the son of the late Clyde E. and Mabel P. (Hartman) Smalley. He was an educator and principal, working for Nottawa Schools and retiring from White Pigeon Schools. He then went on to work for the Kalamazoo YMCA, retiring from there after many years of service. Lyle is survived by a sister in-law, Patricia Smalley; brother in-law, Lawrence Byrnes; nieces and nephews, Norman Rexford, Ernest Butcher, Linda Sweeney, Jeffrey Popenhagen, Darlene Harris, Trudy Schuster and Lindy Watson and special friend, Evelyn Holmes. The family would like to give a special thank you to Darlene Reitz for her care and long-time friendship with Lyle. He was preceded in death by a brother, Erwin Smalley and sisters, Beulah Butcher and Gloria Byrnes. A graveside service will be held on Monday, June 26, 2017 at Vicksburg Cemetery North beginning at 11:30 AM. A time of visitation at the funeral home will precede the graveside service from 10:00 to 11:00 AM. Memorial contributions may be made to the , c/o the funeral home. Joldersma & Klein Funeral Home
