Lyle Main

Died Monday morning August 12, 2019. Lyle was born April 16, 1933 in Hancock County, Indiana a son of Clarence and Elnora (Shields) Main. Years ago, he served honorably with the National Guard. He had been a Kalamazoo area resident for 61 years, coming from Indianapolis, IN. Lyle was employed with Bell Telephone for 38 years. He began his career as a telephone linesman and maintaining the old hand crank wall telephones and progressed to establishing and testing high speed data lines before retiring in 1990. He volunteered with the Bittersweet Ski Patrol for many years. His love of skiing and helping others injured on the hill was passed down the family resulting in 3 generations of patrollers volunteering at Bittersweet at one time. He also enjoyed sailing, wind surfing, golfing and hunting and loved to share these activities with his family. Lyle was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Lillian M. (Brown) Main; 3 sons, Larry, Steven, and James Main; 2 sisters, Rosemary Main and Juanita Stanley; and 2 brothers, Keith and Kenny Main. He is survived by 4 children, Daniel Main of Georgia, Lloyd Main of Portage, Ron (Terri) Main of Plainwell, and Loucinda Main of Medina, OH; 7 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Services will be held 11 o'clock Saturday, August 17th at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes Burial & Cremation Services, 411 E Centre Ave, Portage, MI 49002. Visitation will be 4-7pm Friday, August 16th at the chapel. Interment will be in South Portage Cemetery. In Lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Bittersweet Ski Patrol.
