Lydia Monroe

Lydia Elizabeth (Fulkerson) Monroe of Portage, MI, Age 96, passed away on Tuesday, December 5, 2017. Lydia was born in Hamletsburg, Illionis on April 8, 1921, the daughter of the late Ervin and Ethel (Woolridge) Sisk. She was a long-time member of First Christian Church of St. Joseph, Michigan before moving to Kalamazoo. On November 25, 1989, she was united in marriage to George Monroe, who preceded her in death on September 30, 2002. Lydia was also preceded in death by her infant daughter, Teresa; granddaughter, Nichelle Gornick; first husband, Robert T. Fulkerson; sisters, Verna "Pee Wee" Lambert and Ethel Looney and nephew, James P. Looney. She is survived by her children, Robert (Sue) Fulkerson, Rosalie (Tom) Lajiness, Sherrie (Steve) Eddy and E. Ray (Sharon) Fulkerson; grandchildren, Lisa (Doug) Winch, Mark (Kaileigh) Eddy, Emily (Jason) Ehlert, Brett Gornick and Vincent (Lindsey) Horton; great-grandchildren, Opal, Alexis, Elijah and Cora Eddy; many loving nieces and nephews; and special friends, Yvette, Daniel (Teryn), Jackson and Jason (Tricia) Hetrick. A memorial service will be held on Friday, December 8, 2017 at Kalamazoo Community Church, 2535 N. 26th St., Kalamazoo, MI 49048, beginning at 11:00 AM. Private interment will be at Hickory Bluff Cemetery in Stevensville, Michigan. Visitation will take place at Joldersma & Klein Funeral Home on Thursday, December 7, 2017 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan, c/o the funeral home.
