Lucille Jeanette (nee: Ray) Thompson, age 96, passed away Sunday, July 2, 2017 at the Zilber Family Hospice in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin.

Lucille was born in Grove City, Ohio, on March 27, 1921, the youngest daughter of James and Martha Ellen (Reeder) Ray. She attended the Apostolic Bible Institute of St. Paul, Minnesota, where she met the Rev. Lester Thompson, of Knoxville, Iowa. They were married on September 22, 1940, by the late Rev. W. T. Witherspoon. They were married for nearly 69 years.

The family moved to Wisconsin in 1948, and while they lived in other states at various times, they returned to Wisconsin in 1969.

Lucille was a true example of a wonderful, devoted wife and caring mother. She spent her life faithfully serving in ministry alongside her beloved husband and in later years, loving to stay busy, worked outside the home until her mid-80’s. She always remained young at heart and took great pleasure in visiting with family and friends. Her smile was always welcoming. The memories are many - one of the most endearing and comforting to her family is the sound of her voice happily singing about the house. Some of her interests were to read, write, travel, and shop. Her favorite color was lavender. Lately, she enjoyed playing Words with Friends and staying connected by Facebook. She was looked up to by many and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Lucille leaves behind a loving family: 2 sons, Richard (Sharon) Thompson, Stephen (Sharon) Thompson; one daughter, Sheryl (Stephen) Wasmundt; one daughter-in-law Linda (the late Gary) Thompson; 11 dear grandchildren: Celeste (Dave) Sheriff, Ted (Linda) Thompson, Cindy (Andre) Maki, Renee Carroll, Dulcie (Tom) Lamprecht, Scott (Melissa) Thompson, Sonya (Philip) Rose, Chad (Lisa) Wasmundt, Holly Wasmundt, Stephanie Wasmundt; 19 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great-grandchildren.

Preceding her in death are her husband, Lester Ray Thompson; her son, Gary Ray Thompson; her son, Ronald Lee Thompson; her grandson Seth Alan Thompson, her great-granddaughters, Montana Summer Rose and Madison Winter Rose.

Visitation and funeral services will be held at Maresh-Meredith & Acklam Funeral Home, 803 Main Street, Racine WI on Friday, July 7, 2017. Relatives and friends may meet with the family at the funeral home for visitation from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m.. The funeral service will begin at 12:00 p.m. with interment following at West Lawn Memorial Park.

We wish to thank Zilber Family Hospice for their wonderful care, kindness, and compassion to Lucille and her family.
