Lillian J. Wasson, age 85, of Portage, MI passed away Monday afternoon, July 17, 2017. Lillian was born February 23, 1932 in Battle Creek, MI to the late Frank and June (Addison) Ebert. Lill placed great value on the childhood friendships she maintained throughout her 85 years. Her greatest joys were found in her marriage of 61 years and her family. Lill would frequently reminisce about the many trips she and George took after his retirement. She also fondly recalled camping trips with her children, nieces and nephews. Lill and George kept very active riding bikes, swimming and dancing. For a number of years, they were antique dealers. Lill's varied interests and activities lead to a multitude of stories that were certain to entertain. Lillian's vivacious, feisty and fiercely independent nature filled a room. As a friend remembered, "I don't understand how so much personality could fit in such a tiny body!" Her strong faith and sense of humor saw her through life's challenges. Lill spent many happy hours with her family at the Kellogg Bird Sanctuary and Binder Park Zoo. In her later years, her love for animals lead her to volunteer at the Animal Rescue Project in Kalamazoo. On April 20, 1950 she was united in marriage to her loving husband George, who preceded her in death in 2011. Lillian is survived by her children, Gayle (Rex) DeVree, Dale (Ellen) Wasson; a grand-daughter, Amber (TJ Quay) DeVree; 2 great-grandchildren, Kira and Takota; cherished best friends, John and Marcia Moan, Sara Quay; and several nieces and nephews. A celebration of life will be held Saturday August 26, from 1:00-5:00PM at the Kellogg Bird Sanctuary,12685 East C Avenue. Private interment will held at a later date. Memorials may be directed to the Kellogg Bird Sanctuary, Binder Park Zoo, or the Animal Rescue Project.
