Lewis Allen Fletcher, age 81, of Plainwell, Michigan, passed away Tuesday, October 17, 2017, at Borgess Medical Center in Kalamazoo, Michigan. He was born on October 6, 1936, in Richmond, Missouri, to the late Lewis Fletcher and Vera Allen. His parents until the end of their lives were George and Vera Metcalfe of Comstock, Michigan. He graduated from Comstock High School in 1954. Lew travelled throughout the world as an electronic technician in the U.S. Navy before joining AT&T in 1962. He married Elizabeth Louise Simpson on May 6, 1967, at Zion Lutheran Church in Kalamazoo. The couple moved to Cincinnati, Ohio, in 1967, where they raised their daughter, Gwyn, and son, Sean, before moving their family to Lebanon Township in Hunterdon County, New Jersey, in 1978. He was an active member of Gethsemane Lutheran Church in Hackettstown, New Jersey, and retired from AT&T in Bridgewater, New Jersey, after 35 years with the company. He later earned his real estate license and was an agent at Burgdorff Realty in Long Valley, New Jersey. The couple returned to Michigan in 2001, settling at Lake Doster in Gunn Plain Township. A devoted family man and skilled card player, Lew was a member of Stephen's Ministry at Zion Lutheran Church. He enjoyed bowling, travelling, and captaining his boat around Lake Doster. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Beth Fletcher, his daughter Gwyn Fletcher Hicks (Steve) of Falls Church, Virginia; his son, Sean Allen Fletcher (Isabelle) of Oakland, California; three grandchildren, Kipland, Maggie, and Hunter; his sister Marcia Metcalfe (Don Goldstein) of Meadville, Pennsylvania; and dozens of cousins, nephews and nieces. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Georgia Metcalfe, of Kalamazoo. The visitation will be held on Saturday, October 21, at 10 am at Zion Lutheran Church, 2122 Bronson Blvd in Kalamazoo, Michigan, followed by a service at 11 am. Interment will be at Ft. Custer National Cemetery at a later date. Memorials may be directed to Christian Neighbors in Plainwell. Langeland Family Funeral Homes
