Laura Joling, age 92, of Kalamazoo, formerly of Plainwell, MI passed away on February 24, 2017. Laura was born in Grand Rapids on March 23, 1924 to the late Jacob and Mary (Brouwer) De Jager. Laura attended Calvin College and graduated from Western Michigan University with a degree in Education. She taught elementary school for many years at the former North Christian School in Kalamazoo. Laura's husband of 72 years, Edward H. Joling survives; they were married on April 9, 1944. She is also survived by three children, Marilyn (Neal) Bierling, David (Judith) Joling and Judith (John) Popp; eight grandchildren and their spouses, Joel (Sara) Bierling, Rachel (Dan) Dillbeck, Sara (Yaron) Oren, Emily (David) Dixon, Anne (Vincent) Scipior, Tony (Emily) Popp, Laura Jane (Charlie) Kowalchuk and Benjamin (Raina) Popp; 11 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Ruth Tenbrink, Dorothy De Jager and Carolyn Joling and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Laura was preceded in death by a grandson, Daniel Popp; brother, Donald De Jager and sisters, Helen Lakofsky and Lois Daily. A memorial service will be held at Laura's church, First United Methodist Church of Plainwell, 200 Park St., Plainwell, MI 49080 on Friday, March 3, 2017 at 11:30 AM with Pastor Kathy Brown officiating.
