Becker, Lanson "Lanny" Galesburg Lanson Becker, beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather and great grandfather passed peacefully in his home at 2:45 pm on July 2nd surrounded by his family after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Kalamazoo, MI on February 10, 1941, to Ellis and Elizabeth Becker. He married his sweetheart, Linda Diane Schuyler, on June 1, 1963. Together they raised their family in Galesburg, MI where Lanny was an engineer for over 40 years starting at Argon National Laboratories and retiring from Pfizer in 2006. Lanny was truly a gracious and caring man, loved far and wide! He loved God, his wife, his children, his grandchildren and his great grandchildren. Lanny also made friends everywhere that he went. Lanny and Linda enjoyed cruises and traveling throughout the United States and internationally, usually with their best friends Harry and Eve Noordhof. Lanny had a way of making people, even strangers, feel loved and seen. He was very active in the Galesburg United Methodist Church. He served in many committees, sang in the choir, was involved in kid's club, provided maintenance and repairs and created replacement stained glass windows. With his background in engineering, Lanny loved to tinker with everything – especially automobiles. It started with his grandfather's Model A, progressed into rebuilding numerous cars including a 1964 sky blue Ford Mustang convertible, a replica Ford Shelby Cobra and ended with a Model A much like his grandfathers. Lanny was also very interested ("obsessed") in collecting coins and researching his family tree. He is survived and loved by his wife of nearly 60 years, Linda; his 3 children and their significant others, Tim and Sally Becker, Matt and Karen Becker, and Tyler and Julie Becker; brothers Mark Becker and Doug Becker; 9 grandchildren - Derek, Matt, Sara, Tony, Samantha, Drew, Taylor, Delaney, and Nolan; 8 great grandchildren; and many cousins. On July 8th a celebration of Lanny's life will be held at Galesburg United Methodist Church at 111 West Battle Creek Street in Galesburg, Michigan. We will begin with visitation from 9:30 am – 11:00 am and memorial service at 11:00 am. Immediately following the memorial service a lunch will be served at the garden level of the church. Burial will be at Oak Grove Cemetery located west of 36th Street North, between Gale Street and HJ Avenue, just inside the Galesburg Town limits around 2:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in memory of Lanny Becker be made to: Galesburg United Methodist Church, 111 West Battle Creek Street, Galesburg, MI 49053.
