Surrounded by her loving family, Lalar Mae Farris, age 91, passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday, April 27, 2017. Lalar was born on November 5, 1925 in Greenfield, Tennessee where she married Samuel C. Farris in 1943. They celebrated 65 wonderful years together before his death in 2005. Demonstrating the fruits of the Spirit, Lalar cared for her family throughout her life. She was peaceful and joyful, she possessed a gentle and self-controlled spirit, she demonstrated kindness and goodness--most of all--she was love.

Lalar’s kitchen was always filled with the aroma of her family’s favorite dishes that wafted from its doors inviting them to come in and sample. Some of her most famous dishes included greens, dressing, chicken & dumplings, lima beans, fried chitterlings, boiled custard, homemade ice cream & blackberry cobbler!

In 1959, Lalar moved with her family to Racine and joined the Greater Mt. Eagle Baptist Church where she spent many years praising and worshiping our Lord and Savior. As we celebrate her life today, we know she now is in heaven where she can continually Praise the Lord!

Lalar Mae Farris was preceded in death by her husband Samuel C. Farris, her father Jim Mosley, her mother Mattie Lou Mosley, 4 brothers (German, Cletis, Eddie and Libert), 2 sisters (Margaret Chancellor and Ruth Simmons), her son Sandy, and granddaughters Samantha and Tiffany.

Lalar will be sadly missed by her children, Larry (Gardenia) Farris, Diana Farris, Ronald Farris, Sammy (Kimberley) Farris, Woody (Suzanne) Farris, Jean (Richard) Parra, her 14 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren. However, they all know that she is now in the Lord’s presence.

A Homegoing Celebration will be held Saturday, May 6, 2017, 11:00 A.M. at the funeral home with Reverend Keith Evans officiating. Interment will follow at West Lawn Memorial Park. Relatives and friends may meet with the family at the funeral home Saturday morning 10:00 A.M. until 11:00 A.M.
