Passed away unexpectedly Tuesday morning January 9, 2018 in Summit, Wisconsin with his wife and soulmate Wendy close by his side and holding his hand. Kent was born July 24, 1961 in South Bend, Indiana a son of Arthur and Suzanne (Higgins) Lawrence. He graduated from Michigan State University, and was a devoted fan of the Spartans as well as the Detroit Red Wings, Lions, and Tigers. Kent was employed as an Environmental Chemist with E.C.C.S. (Pace Analytical) in Madison, Wisconsin; he was a member of the American Chemical Society. A resident of Kalamazoo most of his life, Kent attended St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church in Portage. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed deer hunting, fishing, frogging, hunting mushrooms, boating, and playing horseshoes with his dad and brothers. He was also an amazing cook, and his fun-loving nature made him a joy to be around. On June 25, 1994, he was united in marriage to Wendy (Ruddell) Lawrence who survives. Also surviving are 2 beautiful daughters, Elizabeth "Ellie" Lawrence and Allison "Allie" Lawrence both of Plainwell. Kent adored these three wonderful women, and he was an attentive husband and father. He was preceded in death by his father, Arthur Lawrence in 2017, and he is survived by his loving mother Suzanne Lawrence of Spring Hill, FL; 2 amazing brothers, Craig (Kathi) Lawrence of Winter Haven, FL and Patrick Lawrence of Spring Hill, FL; his favorite uncle, Thomas "Pat" (Shelby) Higgins of Mishawaka, IN; and several nieces and nephews, most especially Jennifer (Dane) Pentreath and Jonathan Lawrence, two great-nieces Caitlin Lawrence and Olivia Pentreath, and cousins. Services will be held 11 o'clock Tuesday at St. Catherine of Siena Church, 1150 W. Centre Ave. in Portage. Visitation will be 2:00-4:00 and 6:00-8:00pm Monday at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 S. 9th St. in Kalamazoo and also 10:00-11:00am Tuesday at the church. Private burial will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation or to Senior Services of Southwest Michigan.
