Passed into the presence of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ whom she loved and served, on July 7, 2018 after a lengthy illness in Bloomfield Hills, MI. She was born on February 27, 1943 in Kalamazoo, MI to parents Rev. Jacob and Bessie DeBruin. Graduated from Portage Central High School, Bronson School of Nursing, (becoming a Registered Nurse), and later received a Bachelor's degree in Business Adm. from The University of Redlands, and a Masters in Business from Spring Arbor University. In 1962 Julie married Paul DeKorte, also from Kalamazoo, moved to the Los Angeles area where she lived for thirty years. There she and her husband were active in serving the Lord on staff of several churches, working with music, children and later single moms ministries. She loved to mentor and teach women in study of the Bible. After her husband's death she moved back as a resident of Gull Lake, MI. and until her retirement worked in administration at several SW Michigan Hospitals in charge of home care and hospice services. Julie was a long time member of Calvary Bible Church, Kalamazoo, and most recently Highland Park Baptist, Southfield, MI. Along with her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brother Wendell, and niece Wendy. Julie loved her family and left her son, Stephen DeKorte of Port Orchard, WA, and daughters Suzanne (Fred) Calero of Bloomfield Hills, MI, and Alicia (Michael) Guthrie of Northville, MI. Eleven grandchildren; Paul, Joshua, Morgan DeKorte; Jessica (Zach) Fifelski, Trevor (Claire) Calero, Taylor (Kaitlyn) Calero, Julia (Christian) Theodore, Preston (Carleigh) Guthrie, Trenton, Gabrielle, and Austin Guthrie. Four Great Grandchildren; Zoey, Malachi, Griffin, and Cecilia who brought her so much joy. Mother-in-law Hope DeKorte, sister-in-law Gayle DeBruin Lee, and Nieces Andrea Short and Becky Pasma. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11am with a 10am instate at Highland Park Baptist Church, 28600 Lahser Rd, Southfield, MI and interment in Santa Clarita, CA. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to The Paul DeKorte Memorial Music Scholarship, The Master's University, 21726 Placerita Canyon Road, Santa Clarita, California, 91321.
