Scott, Jonathan "Jon" Alexander Richland, MI Jon, born January 18th, 1969 in Kalamazoo, Michigan, passed away suddenly on April 23, 2020 at the age of 51. Surviving members of his family are parents Charles and Bestie Scott, wife Starla Scott (Wank) with three children Alex, Megan and Gabe Scott, brothers Steve (Heidi) Scott and Rob (Lindsay) Scott. Extended family surviving is his Uncle Floyd Scott, and Uncle James (Debbie) Scott with cousins Ashleigh and Kasey. He was preceded in death by his grandparents Darl and Letha Scott and Robert and Eleanor Peckham, Aunt Mary Scott and cousin, Sam. Jon was the president and co-owner of the family business Gull Lake View Golf Club and Resort. Jon graduated from Gull Lake High School in 1987, then continued a quest of higher education with two degrees from Michigan State University, a master's from Western Michigan University, and Juris Doctor Degree from Cooley Law School. Jon was an active member of the community serving as Vice President of Gull Lake Community School Board and Vice President of Michigan Golf Course Association. His former commitments to the community had included being a Ross Township Trustee, board member of the Parks Committee supporting the Kalamazoo River Valley Trail, and board member of Family & Children Services. Jon's family and his many friends will miss Jon deeply and remember him dearly. Jon passionately promoted golf and related businesses at the local, state, national, and international levels, and he did so with a humanitarian focus that is praiseworthy. Jon ran his businesses with the goal of improving the lives of everyone they affected, including his employees, customers, business associates, and members of the community. Jon made Southwest Michigan a better place; it is lessened by his passage. His family asks those who wish to commemorate Jon to contribute to organizations that he whole-heartedly supported, such as the Gull Lake Community School Foundation (www.glcsf.org) or Family & Children Services (fcsource.org), or to similar organizations in their communities. A memorial service will be planned at a time when friends and family can safely gather to honor Jon. The Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care, Richland Chapel (269-629-6022) is assisting Jon's family.
