John Zackery

John H. Zackery, age 77, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 16, 2018 in Kalamazoo. Son of Loyal Sr. and Leola Zackery, John was born on January 28, 1940 in Waldo, Arkansas. He dedicated over 30 years to Consumers Energy in the marketing department before retiring. In 1970, John married Madeline (Allen), the love of his life, and celebrated 47 years of marital bliss. John was dedicated to his family, church and friends. Surviving him is his wife, Madeline, his sons, John Darrick Zackery (Marceili), Prentice Thompson, Terrance (Cassondra) Zackery and Sean Zackery; his daughters, Carmen Davis, Annette Knight and MeLisa Zackery. He has 13 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends. A wake will be held on Friday, January 26, 6-8 p.m. at Tabernacle Church of God in Christ, 3210 Virginia Avenue, in Kalamazoo. Please join the family at Tabernacle C.O.G.I.C. for the celebration of John's life. A VISITATION will be held Saturday, January 27, 2018, from 9:30a.m.-10:30a.m., with funeral services starting at 10:30a.,m at Tabernacle C.O.G.I.C. Interment will follow service at Mt. Ever Rest Cemetery (S. Westnedge Ave.) in Kalamazoo. In lieu of flowers and because of his passion for life, family, finances and youth, his family is setting up a scholarship fund for young individuals who are experiencing hardships and want to further their education by attending college or trade school.
