Passed away on Thursday, April 6, 2017 at the age of 88. John was born in Kalamazoo on October 23, 1928, the son of the late Henry Overley and Mabel (Pearson) Overley. He attended Kalamazoo College, where he received his Bachelors Degree. He then attended Wayne State University, where he received his Masters Degree. He worked for Electro-Voice, Inc., retiring after 32 years of service. He belonged to the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE), Audio Engineering Society(AES) and Boston Audio Society (BAS). He was actively involved with the Bach Festival, which was founded in 1946 by his father, Henry Overley, Professor of Music at Kalamazoo College. He attended Temple Baptist Church in Kalamazoo. John is survived by his loving wife, Halene (Millikin) Overley, whom he married on October 29, 2005. He is also survived by his in-laws, Charles and Ruth Furlow, Rosalie Kringer, Shirley Millikin, Carol Millikin, Carrie Millikin and Vicki Millikin; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Friends may visit with the family from 10 a.m. 11 a.m. on Monday, April 10th at Temple Baptist Church, 3706 Mt. Olivet Rd., Kalamazoo, MI 49004. The funeral service will follow the visitation at 11 a.m., officiated by Pastor Herb Hutchinson and Pastor R.J. Morelli.
