John Newman

John D. Newman, age 75, of Kalamazoo, MI passed away on Wednesday, January 10, 2017. He was born in Benton Harbor on July 5, 1942, the son of the late John Newman and Jayne (Hench) Martenies. John was a kind and loving husband, father and grandfather who will be deeply missed. He enjoyed spending time outdoors and was an avid hunter. John was very handy as well as artistic. He crafted many wood duck carvings as well as other projects. He was a former member of First Freewill Baptist Church. John was selfless and charitable and always willing to help those in need. Above all John loved his family and leaves them with many special memories. On April 7, 1962, he married his high school sweetheart, Sally Ann Newman who survives. He is also survived by two children, Amy (Bart) Seelye, Joe (Laura) Newman; three grandchildren, Ellie and Jack Seelye and Ben Newman; a sister, Shea Wetzler; close family friends, Linda Edwards and family; nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in passing by a brother, Jim Grubius. A visitation will be held at the Joldersma & Klein Funeral Home on Monday, January 15, 2018, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM. A private graveside service will follow. Memorial contributions may be made to Rose Arbor Hospice Residence, c/o the funeral home.
