John DeVries

John DeVries, age 65, of Kalamazoo, MI passed away on Monday, February 13, 2017 in Kalamazoo. He was born on August 22, 1951 in Kalamazoo, MI a son of Roland and Carolyn (Bourdo) DeVries and had been a lifelong area resident. John was a lifelong member of Second Christian Reformed Church where he was very involved with the Sunday school and Cadet programs. He was preceded in death by his longtime friend, Barb Hageman on August 22, 2015. John is survived by his parents; four siblings, Vicki (Don) DeVries of Kalamazoo, Peggy (William) Hauke of Kalamazoo, Roland (Dawn) DeVries of Dover, DE and Rodney DeVries and his girlfriend, Sarah Mills of Kalamazoo; six nieces and nephews, Tim (Tara) DeVries, Tom (Stephanie) DeVries, Nick (Kim) Gianakis, Jaimie DeVries, Melanie (Nate) Batts and Kayla (Tyler) Knotts, ten great-nieces and nephews; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Visitation will be held from 5-8pm on Thursday, February 16th at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 South 9th Street. Private graveside services will be held. A memorial service to celebrate John's life will be held at 11am on Friday, February 17th at Second Christian Reformed Church, 3015 Nichols Road with Fred DeYoung officiating. Memorials may be directed to Second Christian Reformed Church Sunday school.
