HIRSCH, JOHANNA (VERHEUL) of Richland, MI and formerly of Troy, MI Johanna, age 87, died peacefully Monday afternoon, December 18, 2017 at Park Village Pines, Kalamazoo, MI with her loving daughter, Wendy at her side. Johanna, the daughter of Leonardus and Anna (Nederhand) Verheul, was born in Royal Oak, MI on October 30, 1930; was a 1948 graduate of Milford High School and moved to Kalamazoo in 2009 from Troy. She retired as an Administrative Assistant for Vend-A-Matic of Troy. Johanna was an active member of the Pine Hill Congregational Church of West Bloomfield and had attended the St. Timothy Episcopal Church of Richland, when able since moving to this area. In her retirement, she volunteered at Beaumont Hospital and was an avid reader. Johanna and her husband, Lou enjoyed traveling and entertaining friends and family. She also followed the Detroit Tigers and the Lions even during their many years of mediocracy. Johanna was united in marriage to Wendell E. Ecker in 1951 in Royal Oak, MI, which ended in 1957 and he preceded her in death in 1995. She married Louis E. Hirsch in Las Vegas, NV in 1985 and he preceded her in death in 2009. Surviving is her daughter, Wendy A. Dillworth of Richland; a precious granddaughter, Stephanie M. (Ryan) Corcoran of Columbus, OH; a precious grandson, Matthew M. Dillworth of Richland; a cherished great grandson, Ethan R. Corcoran, her former son-in-law, John E. Dillworth of Portage, MI, and her sister-in-law Doris (Bill) Hamill. Johanna was preceded in death by her parents; a granddaughter, Allison Hirsch in 2006; two sisters, Dorothy Dabe and Corry Weidmaier and a brother, Robert Verheul. The Memorial Eucharist Service to celebrate Johanna's life will be held on Friday, December 29th at 11:00 a.m. at St. Timothy Episcopal Church, 9800 East BC Avenue, Richland, MI 49083 with Father Joel L. Turmo, Rector as the Celebrant. Johanna's family will greet friends on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the Church. Family and friends will continue Johanna's life celebration with a time of fellowship and a luncheon immediately following the Service in the Church Social Hall. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Johanna's honor may be directed to the Kalamazoo Loaves & Fishes, 901 Portage Street, Kalamazoo, MI 49001.
