Joanne Elizabeth Wheaton, formerly of Galesburg, MI, passed on November 15, 2017, in Lakeland, FL. Born in Kalamazoo, MI on March 20, 1931 to Glenn I. and Alice Coville Wheaton, she is survived by her brother Richard Wheaton of Fremont, MI, her sister Lila Carley of Lakeland, FL and her many nieces, nephews and extended family who remember with love Joanne's personal messages of encouragement written by hand to mark each birthday and holiday. Joanne was an independent and strong person who was successful in the banking business for many years. In her late forties she gave up the business world in search of a more fulfilling life. She attended the Waldorf Institute of Mercy College of Detroit studying in the Waldorf Early Childhood Education Program. At the age of 51 she joined the staff at Camphill Special School, Beaver Run, PA living and working in a village environment of curative education. This was her true calling. When the time came, Joanne followed her spirit and left her beloved Beaver Run to care for her aging parents. Then she cared for her Aunt Elizabeth Becker. Joanne was truly a loving caregiver. "Man is not a being who stands still, he is a being in the process of becoming. The more he enables himself to become, the more he fulfills his true mission."
