Joan Powell Scott, age 88, of Dorr went to be with her Lord on May 16, 2021. She was born July 3, 1932 in McKinley Township, Michigan, to the late Lynn and Doris (Readmond) Ward. Joan will be remembered as a determined woman from the moment she was born. She was known to have a big heart, and always put the needs of others before her own. Joan was a renowned cook and used this passion to further help others. She would ensure there were always extras for neighbor kids and anyone that may stop by and could be seen volunteering in the kitchen at the First Congregational Church in Allegan, preparing free meals. In her own kitchen, she was known for baking pies, especially Pumpkin, and making fudge and peanut brittle to pass along to the neighbors and mail lady. Joan had many passions in life and put faith in her loving God. She was an avid attendee at the First Congregational Church where she volunteered. Her hands were always busy, and crafting was a main passion, along with golf and jigsaw puzzles. She was a "jack of all crafts," enjoying quilting, crocheting, knitting, and embroidery. She even sewed her children's clothes for many years. Joan also loved camping trips with family, gardening, and bird watching-there was always plenty of birdseed for the cardinals and nectar for hummingbirds. Joan married Merwin Lee Powell December 11, 1954, with whom she had her four children. He preceded her in death in June 1981 after a battle with lung cancer. She was also preceded in death by sisters Karen Ward and Donna Conkright. Joan later married Malcolm Scott on November 16, 2002, who survives. She is also survived by her four children, David Powell, Laurie (Alan) Baker, Kim (Jeff) Cieslak, and Kellie (Scott) Fuson; nine grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; brother, Garry Ward; sister, Carol Mattson; and numerous nieces and nephews. Per Joan's wishes, cremation will take place, and Joan will be laid to rest with Merwin at Washtenong Memorial Park at a later date. Donations may be made to First Congregational Church Kitchen, in honor of Joan Powell Scott, at 323 Cutler Street, Allegan, MI 49010.
