Joan Mae Kent, age 85, of Delton, MI passed away Friday, January 27, 2017. She was born in Kalamazoo to the late Martin "Corky" and Mary (VanKruiningen) Mulder on March 1, 1931. Joan is survived by a daughter, Mary Joan (Thomas) DeFazio and two sons, George Jeffrey "Jeff" Kent and Lawrence "Larry" Andrew (Wendy) Kent. Joan also had two granddaughters, Rebecca Katz and Carrie (Jacob) VanMantgem. She was also blessed with great-grandchildren, Joseph Jacob VanMantgem and Nicholas James. She was preceded in death by her husband, George Kent; and brother, Allen Mulder. Joan was also a lifetime area resident having lived in Kalamazoo, Paw Paw, Gun Lake and Delton. Her education was in the Kalamazoo Public Schools and Western Michigan University. She received her Master's degree from Western Michigan University. Joan and her husband George enjoyed traveling around the world taking many cruises and trips. She enjoyed Copenhagen, London, New Zealand and the Greek Isles. The best cruise of all was to Alaska in 2004 when George and Joan renewed their vows for their 50th wedding anniversary. They really enjoyed exploring Michigan's Upper Peninsula. Joan loved being active and when time permitted, she also enjoyed needlework, embroidery, ceramics, glass etching and stained glass, gardening and several water activities on Gun Lake. At her request cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation. A private family memorial will be held later at the time of interment.
