Jo Ann Freeman

Jo Ann Freeman, age 81, of Portage, MI passed away Tuesday morning January 16, 2018 at Bronson Hospital following a short illness. JoAnn was born September 3, 1936 at Bronson Hospital in Kalamazoo the daughter of the late Kenneth and Lila (Blomeley) Stratton. While a senior in high school, she met Larry Freeman. Larry was serving in the US Army. They married on April 12, 1954. After high school graduation, JoAnn moved to live with Larry in Augsburg, Germany. Upon their return from Germany, they lived in Kalamazoo and started their family. JoAnn had the privilege of being a home maker while her children were young. She then worked for local court reporters transcribing depositions and other legal matters. JoAnn was preceded in death by her son, Christopher in 1973 and her husband, Larry in 1994. She is survived by her daughter, Terri (Glenn) Aman; her grandchildren, Nicole (Cory) Caswell and Ryan (Michelle) Aman; and great-grandchildren Kaiya and Karli Caswell. Services will be held 11 o'clock Friday from the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Memorial Chapel, 622 S. Burdick St. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the chapel. Private interment will be in Riverside Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
