Jean Thayer

Age 91, passed away at Life Care Center of Plainwell on February 19, 2019. Jean was born in Kalamazoo on June 24, 1927, the daughter of the late J. Robert and Alice (Dekema) Howe. She remained a life long resident of Kalamazoo. She gave her life to Christ at an early age and lived out her faith in service to others. She was a long-time member of Calvary Bible Church where she became involved in many activities. Her kind smile and warm embrace will be missed in the pew on Sunday. Jean was a hard worker who did her best to provide a happy home for her children. She worked for the State Highway Department for more than twelve years and later worked part-time at local doctor's offices. When not working she enjoyed knitting, crochet, cross-word puzzles and bowling. Jean loved her family and leaves them with wonderful memories of a life well lived. On November 11, 1949, she married the love of her life, James C. Thayer who preceded her in passing. She was also preceded in passing by a daughter, Nancy Aldrich in 1999. Jean is survived by two children, Karen Wilson and Robert (Janet) Thayer; eight grandchildren; thirteen grandchildren; a sister, Doris Dylhoff; nieces, nephews and extended family. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday, February 25, 2019, from 1:00 to 3:00 PM and 5:00 to 7:00 PM. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, February 26, 2019, beginning at 11:00 AM in the chapel at Calvary Bible Church, 855 S. Drake Rd., Kalamazoo, MI 49009 with Dan Johnson officiating.
