Age 86, mother, aunt, grandmother and dear friend to all, passed away on May 21, 2017, peacefully surrounded by family. Janice was born June 5, 1930 in South Bend, Indiana to the late Earl and Mabel Lienhart Fries. She was united in marriage to Thomas Kuball in 1954 who preceded her in death in 1963. She later was united in marriage for ten years to Alvan Traxler in 1967. Janice was a graduate of Western Michigan University. She worked as a secretary at First National Bank and continued that career at the Third Christian Reformed Church in Kalamazoo, where she was a member. Janice was proud to be a member of the Michigan State Chapter of the P.E.O. Sisterhood. Janice's passion for cooking and entertaining led her to own a very successful catering business for many years. Janice cherished time spent with her family and friends, and in her later years greatly enjoyed the company of her grandchildren. Janice's other passion was flower and vegetable gardening. She loved entertaining year-round, and always opened her house to anyone and everyone. With Janice as hostess, you could always count on wonderful food, fun, and a full belly when you walked out the door. Janice is survived by her children, Pamela Devereaux, Laurie (Gary) Smith, and David (Wendi) Traxler; daughter in law, Amy Wright, grandchildren, Brandon and Joshua Devereaux, Rachel and Allison Traxler, Abigayle Smith, Christina and Michael Pattengale, Nicole Traxler Wright, great granddaughter, Madelyn Devereaux and many nieces and nephews. Janice was also preceded in death by her children Craig Traxler and Bonnie Pattengale, her brother Robert Fries, and sister, Marilyn Eberhardt. Janice also had many dedicated & special life-long friends who were always by her side, and some great home helpers she loved as her own family. There will be a Celebration of Life for Janice on Saturday, June 17th, at Langeland Family Funeral homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 S. 9th St., Kalamazoo, Michigan. Family will greet friends from 10-11am the memorial service will begin at 11am with a luncheon to follow. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or to the Michigan State Chapter of the P.E.O. Sisterhood (www.peomichigan.org).
