Janice Marie Nielsen, 80, passed away Tuesday, May 23, 2017 at The Woods of Caledonia. She was the beloved wife of Larry Nielsen of Racine.

Janice was born November 16, 1936 and daughter of the late George and Louise (Nee: Wick) Jerstad. Janice was a graduate of Washington Park High School “Class of 1954” and a lifetime resident of Racine.

On September 4, 1954 she was united in marriage to Lawrence I. Nielsen. She was employed by Surgitek for 20 years before retiring from Bristol-Myers in 1998. She was a member of Emmaus Lutheran Church, the Sons of Norway, and Badgerland Miata Club.

Janice loved literature, music, and the arts. She loved to read and was an accomplished pianist. More than anything she treasured the time spent with her family and enjoyed vacationing with her husband, children, and grandchildren. Her kind, caring, intelligent spirit and smile will be greatly missed.

Jan is survived by her loving husband of 62 years, Larry; daughter Grace (Mark) Falaschi of Racine; son Doug (Linda) Nielsen of Chicago; grandchildren Sam Falaschi, Brad (Barb) Falaschi, April Falaschi, Gabriella and Max Nielsen; a great granddaughter Guilianna Falaschi; sisters-in-law, Vicky Heckel, Judy Nielsen, Sandy (Dan) Hoaglund; many dear nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son Barry; brother George (Patricia) Jerstad; and brothers-in-law, LeRoy Nielsen, David Nielsen, and Don Heckel.

A Memorial Service will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, June 1, 2017 at 5:00 P.M. Relatives and friends may meet Thursday at the funeral home from 3:00 P.M. until time of service at 5:00 P.M. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Alzheimer’s Association in Janice’s honor have been suggested.

The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the staffs at Hospice Alliance and The Woods of Caledonia for their loving and compassionate care.
