Janice Collins

Collins, Janice Jean Janice Jean Collins passed away peacefully Sunday, July 31, 2022, at the age of 84. She was born December 17, 1937 in Kalamazoo to the late Donald and Lois Miller. Janice was lovingly raised by them and her stepfather, Leon Miner. A square dance in 1952 introduce her to Tom Collins, whom she later married on February 24, 1955, sharing 66 years of marriage. Together they raised three children, Thomas Collins, Dawn Butts (Collins), and Brian Collins, who then gave them their six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. On May 24, 1970, Janice and Tom were saved and committed their lives to serving God. Janice was a selfless caregiver. She especially loved caring for babies, including her own grandchildren, as well as those at the nursery at church. She was also a generous caregiver to many family members in their later years. Though not a fan of the travel involved, she enjoyed trips to Hawaii. Closer to home, she liked to spend time at the casino and in Shipshewana, and in her home watching hummingbirds at the feeders. She also occasionally took up cooking and baking, being known for her lemon merengue pie. Janice was preceded in death by her loving husband, William "Tom" Collins; parents, Donald Miller and Lois Miner; stepfather, Leon Miner; son, Thomas Collins; and two brothers and a sister, Mike Miner, Beverly Canard, and Robert Miller. She is survived by her two children, Dawn and Brian; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and numerous other family members and friends. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, August 9, 2022 at 11:00am at Berean Baptist Church, 7813 S 12th St, Portage, MI 49024. The family will receive friends Monday, August 8, 2022 from 2-4 & 6-8pm at Langeland Family Funeral Homes Burial & Cremation Services, 3926 S 9th St, Kalamazoo, MI 49009 and at the church one-hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to West Michigan Cancer Center or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Janice's memory.
