Janet Lee (Hutchins) Sanborn passed away February 25th at Maple Lake Assisted Living in Paw Paw. She was born August 31, 1940, in Lawrence, the daughter of Leland and Florence (Monroe) Hutchins. She grew up on a farm in Arlington Township and attended the one-room Hicks country school from kindergarten through eighth grade. She transferred to Lawrence High School in her freshman year and graduated in 1958. She was the first Lawrence Homecoming Queen in 1957, crowned on a snowy night by her high school sweetheart, Phil Sanborn, at a football game versus Bloomingdale. She attended Western Michigan University for two years, majoring in Home Economics. Janet Lee and Phil were married on June 21, 1960, and they spent many happy years together traveling the world, first with the Navy and later in retirement. They moved back to Lawrence in 1998 and settled on the Hutchins' homestead. They attended East Arlington Baptist Church in their youth and again after moving back to Michigan. Janet Lee was an ever-present, dedicated, and loving mother and wife. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Ronnie Hutchins; and son, Jeffrey Sanborn. Surviving are her husband, Philip Sanborn of Lawrence; son, Scott (Jill) Sanborn of Lawrence; daughter, Cheryl (Chuck) Duncan of Lawrence; granddaughter, Lauren (Jared) Sherwood of Chattanooga, Tennessee; granddaughter, Emily Duncan of Lawrence; and brother, Richard (Gayle) Hutchins of Lawrence. Cremation has taken place in accordance with her wishes. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Janet Lee may be made to East Arlington Baptist Church or the Lawrence Alumni Association. A memorial service in her honor will be held at East Arlington Baptist Church on Saturday, March 17, at 2 p.m. www.dlmillerfuneralhome.com
