Christianson, Janet (Jan) Kalamazoo Age 85, passed away on Wednesday, August 26, 2020. Jan was born in Wausau, WI, in January 1935, to Winfield and Eva (Lee) Holmes. She graduated from Luther Hospital School of Nursing in Eau Claire, Wisconsin where she met her husband of 63 years, Charles (Chuck) Christianson. In 1957 they were married and moved to Kalamazoo, Michigan where they lived for all but 5 years when work took the family to Cheshire, Connecticut. Jan worked for many years as a hospital staff nurse, a camp nurse, a school nurse, an industrial health nurse, and a staff nurse at the Family Health Center until 1978 when she took a job with the Kalamazoo Visiting Nurse Association. Jan worked as an office nurse for Drs. Van Hare, Forman, Kostin and Behrje and at Kalamazoo Gastroenterology. She also worked as a clinical instructor at Davenport College and she started the Parish Nursing Program at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Portage. Besides her husband, she is survived by daughters, Laura (Richard) Bennett of Shalimar, FL and Carol Christianson of Kalamazoo; son, Karl (Gina) Christianson of York, PA; 5 grandchildren; a great-grandson; brother, Phillip Holmes; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Winfield, Russell, and John Holmes; and her niece Christine Holmes. The family would like to thank the staff of Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan for the outstanding care and support extended to Jan and her family in the last few months of her life. The family is planning a memorial service to be held at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, at a later date, when it is safe for us to be together again. Jan will be laid to rest in Grand Prairie Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan or Prince of Peace Lutheran Church Samaritan Fund, c/o the funeral home.
